Feeding the Seagulls

by Michelle

Birds are interesting animals. So are seagulls. One time, my family and I went to a beach, and there were two other men who were feeding the birds. My mom brought chips, and we fed the seagulls until we ran out. Whenever I threw part of a chip to the back of the birds, they were ready to fly away. But as soon as they saw the food, they darted straight for it. It was just so fun! I tried making a path of chips so the birds would get closer to me, but I couldn’t, because it was windy. I was disappointed when we had to leave, but it was still fun.

I remember when I was still sitting in the car. I wasn’t sure when my mom said,”Come on, Michelle! It’ll be fun!”(or something like that). Soon, I found myself feeding birds, and having fun! While we were feeding the birds, I saw a man holding a “to-go” box with leftovers, then he tossed it to the birds. When he left, I saw a huge brown seagull swoop down and grab the box. Another time, my brother, Adrian, throw a chip at the birds, then two birds ran into each other, because they were heading for the same chip!

Digging for Gemstones: Feels Like an Archaeologist

by Michelle
Today is my first time to write my own blog entry. My mom helped me and showed me how to choose the pictures. After a few minutes, I found my subject: the time I dug twelve gemstones from a block of sandstone.
Here, I started to get in more and more. It took me about ten minutes to find my first gemstone, serpentine. Later, I started finding more and more, until I found all twelve. I was really excited, because I felt like an archaeologist!
After a long time of digging, I knew I was getting closer to the finish. I found out that archaeologists really have to work hard, because if they found ancient stuff, they have to dust it with a brush(like me!), so they won’t break any treasures. I was glad when my brother helped me, even if he found big, broken chunks of rock, and tried to break it.
Actually, I don’t even know how long it took me to find all twelve(the picture just shows nine of the rocks), but I know that it took me a very long time! I still had to find two more gemstones, but my dad told me to sleep because it was midnight. So the next morning, I finished the rest, and put all of what I found on a box. When my mom woke up, she didn’t know where I put the gemstones, so she picked up the box, but before she could throw it away, she saw my gemstones fall into the carpet. She only found eleven of it, but then I found the twelfth one next to the sandstone! Also, the gemstones that I found were: One rock crystal, one fluorite, tree rose quartz, one amazonite, one jasper, one serpentine, one sodalite, one agate, and one mahogany obsidian.

Fascinated by Airplanes

My son is obsessed with airplanes. He’s been busy doing this paper model for the past few days or weeks already. Many times I would see him getting out of the house just to watch the airplanes flying above our area.

One day, while waiting for my kids who were swimming, I happen to watch and observe planes that are passing by every 5-10 minutes. This one caught my camera and my son said, “that’s the one I am making.”

Adrian is still consistent on what he wants to become, a pilot. I hope he’s going to fly commercial planes and not fighter jets.

Digging some old photos, I came across this one.

I’m Back!

After hibernating for about two years, our blog site has now resurrected! I will be inviting my kids & husband to contribute from time to time. It has always been my goal to update this site but I don’t know what happened. I will just backtrack from the time I stopped just like in the movies.

So to start anew and since it’s the love month, I’d like to touch on one of the 5 love languages – Quality Time. As a family, we love going out and spending time with or without plans. Spending quality time is really a must for our family. We make sure that even if our weekdays are full with individual schedules, our weekends definitely are always busy (I figured out now why I have tons of chores every Monday).

Last week was one of those outdoor fun activities we had. We went to Ogden to see their Winterfest Activities. We’ve learned that they brought tons of snow (460 large dump trucks) from different areas such as Hinckley Airport and paved them up along the 25th street for the event. This was their 2nd year hosting the event and about 12,000 spectators went in the two-day event.

We spent more than 4 hours and we had so much fun. There were too many activities that we don’t know which one to go to. We spent more time with the sled and ski and was distracted by the food booth that’s why we missed the skijoring competition. Skijoring is a winter sport where a person on skis is pulled by a horse.

We started off with watching the Toboggan (Sled) Parade mostly by sponsors. One of them is Coca Cola, thus we have this photo of the Coca Cola Polar Bear.

Then, sledding. Notice how high was the starting point. It’s as high as the traffic light.

We took the opportunity to try cross country skiing with skis, poles and shoes provided by Weber State University.

There were many activities happening simultaneously like snowmobile racing, polar bear swim event, flag football competition. Other activities include junior jazz basketball, 5K run, ski-bike race, live music, dog show, human dog sled race. Plus the many booths that served yummy food. We tried Hawaiian chicken barbecue, pulled pork sandwich, the very popular ribbon fries with cheese and a big buffalo burger.

After the event we went home exhausted but happy. We’re glad we went to Ogden that day.

Adrian’s work

A little of this and a little of that, put them together to make a miniature house inspired by watching HGTV.

Triangles

Triangles by Adrian Resubal

After a lesson in Geometry, Adrian made a bitmap of different types of triangles. As you can see, he made equilateral, isosceles and scalene triangles in different presentations and sizes to come up with a simple geometric art. He is fond of exploring Geometry. Part of his exercises is learning how to program in GWBasic. Of course, the proponent of that was his Dad.

Storytelling

She loves every bit of attention from me. She even uses a bell to get my attention especially when I’m giving only half of my “divided attention”. Children are smart. They also know when you are minding of what they do.

This activity of Michelle makes her more creative, increase her vocabulary and master spelling of words. Uses of different characters in the story widens the sphere that influences her. By this kind of play at the same time learning, she becomes more aware about her surroundings.
More than the learning experience, she loves being appreciated. A clap or mere hug makes her smile and contented that what she does makes sense. It also inspires her to stretch her limit.

Homeschool Stuff

Ice cream really ice cream, what a treat!

One proof of God’s faithful provision and bonus to me for choosing my family over career in the corporate world is my chance to homeschool and to do a part-time job. It was God who placed me over this kind of job. It was true that God provided a ram in replacement of Isaac’s life in obedience of Abraham to God. When I obeyed the call to be with my children in their growing years on a full-time capacity, God provided a work for me at home with minimal time required. Later on, I realized that God prepared my part-time job and honored my desire ahead of time. In fact, I started with that part-time job while I was still performing my full-time job. It was really amazing.
Until this day, I am doing that same job. Good that homeschool is so flexible that even if we have regular class hours, I can modify our schedule anytime. Since I know what tickles my children’s creative mind, I have supplies and stocks of activities that will make them busy for hours. Stuff like beads, colored papers, markers of all types, paints, clay, paper money, things from the kitchen, chopsticks, grains, my scrapbooking supplies and a lot more are included in the list. So when I have to go out or busy about something, homeschool still runs smoothly.

Above are some of the pictures taken while I’m doing my stuff.
